These workshops for Chatfield parents are also open to the public and made possible by The Chatfield School. All workshops will take place in the Chatfield Music Room.

Child care will be available for students enrolled at Chatfield School.

                     A half hour question and answer session will follow each workshop.

 

Parenting the Love and Logic Way!

We all want children who are respectful, responsible and fun to be around. Learn essential skills on how to neutralize arguing and avoid un-winnable power struggles and arguments. Enforceable statements are an effective way to say no to your child. We will learn how to set limits in a way that empowers our children to make effective decisions. Children have four essential needs: counted, connected, capable, and courageous. Learn fun and effective ways to meet these needs while creating the family of your dreams.

 

Boys and Girls Learn Differently!

Did you ever know deep down that your girls and boys learn differently? This workshop introduces participants to the rapidly emerging research on how the brains of females and males are developmentally, structurally and functionally different. We will then discuss the types of environments that help both boys and girls reach their full potential. Have fun learning the new information and develop new tools to help your own children be successful in a variety of learning environments.

 

Rethinking Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: What Works, What Doesn’t and Why!

Children and youth with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have unique brains. In this illuminating workshop, you’ll learn the “12 Power Tools” for maximizing the strengths and minimizing the contextual weaknesses of the ADHD brain. Participants learn how to become “the surrogate frontal lobes” for ADHD brains and how to change their thinking about ADHD from a behavioral disorder to a unique brain construct that can be accommodated with highly successful outcomes.

Words can be powerful motivator or blockers. Learn ways of talking to children that enhance true self-esteem. Understand the difference between praise and encouragement. Learn the four powerful “Languages of the Brain” that will transform the lives of children. Learn new ways of talking with youth that builds resilience, promotes intrinsic motivation and aids children in essential life skills

 

Giving a Fish a Bath: The Untold Story of the Adolescent Brain!

Recent discoveries in neuroscience offer exciting insights into how the brains of our teens really work and the special “brain-based challenges facing adolescents as they mature. This workshop reveals why teens are especially vulnerable to drug use, high-risk peer influences and depression as well as the proactive measures adults can take to minimize teen’s exposure to these dangers. If you’ve ever thought that the adolescent mind could not be understood, this workshop will arm you with the latest insights and information on knowing and empowering the teenage brain.

 

--Who Is Gloria Sherman?--

Gloria Sherman, owner of Parenting with Great Learning Opportunities (GLO), is a retired Middle School Counselor. She has been providing consultation and presentations to parents and teachers individually and in workshops for years. 

Mrs. Sherman received her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Eastern Michigan University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the State of Michigan. She also has a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Saginaw Valley State University. 

With a passion to provide the tools to help raise respectful and responsible children, Gloria enjoys guiding parents to put the fun back into parenting, and helping teachers to re-discover the joys of teaching.
