Chatfield School Partners in Education (P.I.E.)

Meeting Minutes

March 19, 2008

Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm with 10 people in attendance including Jack McCauley and Betty McCauley.

  1.  President Dawn Kanasty, Vice-President Maureen Del Campo, and Secretary Michelle Komisak were in attendance.

  1. Michelle read the minutes from the last meeting, held January 25, 2008.  The minutes were approved.

  1. In Treasurer Natalie Kopacka's absence, Dawn briefly reviewed the Treasurer's report.  There is a current balance of $1735.76.  This balance reflects hot lunch proceeds through the end of February.  The report reflects that $8000 has been paid towards P.I.E.'s commitment of $10,000 for relocation of the playground equipment.  We will continue to strive to raise funds to meet our commitment to the school account for the relocation.

  1. Fundraising for the 2007/2008 school year was discussed.

Ø      The Chatfield Family Contribution ("No Fund Fundraiser") Thus far about 100 families have participated by making a contribution.

Ø      Meijer Cards/Other Programs Applications reflect only about 35 Chatfield families enrolled so far.  We hope to get more families enrolled.  Maureen will work on getting families enrolled in the Target "Take Charge of Education" program in time for the purchase of items for the Willows Shower on May 20.

Ø      The sales of School Spirit Apparel have been a great success.  The Spring Spirit wear campaign is well under way.  Many thanks to Lori Taylor for her suggestion that we offer the very popular brown with pink or blue t-shirts-they are selling very well.  Mr. McCauley says we can keep the display up in the lobby for a while yet.

Ø      We made about $149 on  Achatz Pies offered for the Holidays.

Ø      The next Applebee's Chatfield Family Night is scheduled for May 6th.  The proceeds from this night will go to support the Relay for Life.

Ø      Wojo's (Garden Splendors in Davison) Fundraiser to be held Thursday May 22nd and Saturday May 31st.  If you are shopping for your spring flowers and vegetables, why not support P.I.E.  at the same time?! All you have to do is tell the cashier that you are "shopping to support Chatfield P.I.E." and 10% of your sales will be donated to P.I.E.  Tell your friends and family!

Ø      We're working with Perkin's to do a fundraising event there also.  More details to follow.

Ø      Texas Hold'em event is in the works, just waiting to verify the date with the hall.  This is a fun adult night out!  More details to follow shortly.

  1. Elections.

·        Ami Davis and Colleen Dolland were nominated for the position of Co-Secretaries by Lori Taylor; seconded by Amy Meister.

·        Amy and Joe Cooper were nominated for the position of Co-Treasurers by Ami Davis; seconded by Colleen Dolland.

  1. Open Forum:

·        There was a question about parking lot concerns.  Betty McCauley noted that we want to see how traffic flows once the new middle school starts in the fall, so that problems are clearly identified before (very costly) alternatives/changes are initiated. Betty noted that there will be many after school activities offered for the middle school students, and that might mitigate any parking lot issues caused by the addition of the 7th and 8th grades.

·        Kudos to Jack McCauley for quick response and action on parent concerns!

·        Kudos to the Security Squad-they are doing a great job and the parents love the friendly kids wishing them a good day!

·        Betty McCauley noted that there are a few important dates coming up that will require help from parents;

o       April 18th at 10:00am the Saginaw Valley authorizors will be touring Chatfield and The Willows.

o       May 20th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm is the Willows Shower-an open house for Chatfield families to celebrate the opening of the Willows.  Details about purchasing items from the Willows Shower registries (to stock the kitchen) will follow shortly.

o       July 22nd is the Dedication Ceremony for the Willows.  Many local dignitaries will be invited-it will be quite a party!  Again, more details to follow in the coming months.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:37pm.

Thanks to all in attendance!

Next Meeting:  Friday May 16th at 8:45 am in the Multipurpose Room.
