Bill Kraly, Director
Mr. Kraly started his teaching career at Chatfield in 1997 after graduating from Western Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education. At Chatfield he has taught third through eighth grade students. He earned his Masters in Education degree in Educational Leadership from Oakland University in 2004. Mr. Kraly is married to Jennifer, has three children, and resides in Metamora.
Matthew Young, Director
Matthew Young earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, 1995 and a Masters in Education from Saginaw Valley State University, 2003. Mr. young has served as Principal of Utica Center for Applied Learning, an alternative education high school, Jeannette Junior High, , and Shelby Junior High. As a teacher at Davis Junior High in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 Matt was honored by his colleagues as Teacher of the Year. Mr. and Mrs. Young and their two young children live in Attica. Matt enjoys living in the country, fishing and spending time with his family.
Kathy Campbell - Spanish
Senora Campbell graduated from Oakland University and has a major in Spanish and a minor in Language Arts. She is certified to teach Spanish from grades K-12. She also studied in Mexico City, Mexico and enjoyed living there and experiencing a new culture. She lives in Metamora with her husband, their two horses and four cats. She enjoys reading, horseback riding, walking and bike riding.
Melissa Fernandez - Art
Melissa Leaym-Fernandez, has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Art Education, a Master's degree in Art Education and currently is working on a second master's degree in Arts Administration. She owns and operates The Elephantworks Studio as a professional artist. She has worked in several private and public collections. She has shown her paintings in corporate, university and museum settings. She has lived all over in the United States, London, England; taught in India; taught k-12 and at the college level. She is married to the delightful, humorous and incredible Mr. Fernandez and they have three interesting children-- who all live in the Greater Blue Water area.
Deanne Schlusler - Reading
Mrs. Schlusler earned her Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University. She obtained her Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist from Oakland University. Her family consists of husband (Michael) and 2 young adult children. Mrs. Schlusler loves to garden,bake,read,and sew.
Mike Schlusler - Counselor
Mr. Schlusler received his B.S. and M.A. from Central Michigan University. His wife is Deanne and she is a reading coordinator at Chatfield. The couple have two married children. He has had extensive training in Smart Character Choice Education and Chatfield received the 2010 Michigan State School of Character Award. He enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and antiques. He is active in his church and community.
Celeste Hingst - Librarian / Reading
Mrs. Celeste Hingst received her Bachelors Degree in Education from University of Michigan – Flint. Continuing graduate credits for reading have been from Marygrove College and the University of Colorado. She taught first, second, fifth and sixth grades at Chatfield from 2000 – 2005. Mrs. Hingst worked at Lapeer District Library for five years and currently oversees the Chatfield Library. She also instructs reading support at Chatfield and oversees the CBS News, Lego Robotics, and CSI programs.
Keith Verellen - P.E. / Athletics
Keith Verellen graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education (physical education/history). He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Educational Leadership through Saginaw Valley State University and plans to complete this phase of his education in 2013. Mr. Verellen is very active in his profession and attends many state and national conventions and workshops. Mr. Verellen has been awarded various grants over the past five years that has positively impacted the youth in Lapeer County. Mr. Verellen resides in Imlay City with his wife (Kimberly) and children (Cassandra and Cameron).
