Chatfield School

Mrs. Decker - German

German Class creates a positive and low stress active atmosphere using total physical response and total physical response storytelling.  This format allows a more natural approach to language acquisition.  Just as a child first listens to and responds physically to words, the German student begins by simply proving their comprehension through physical response to words or commands and by acting out stories being told by the teacher in the target language.  As student skills advance, students will then be required to read and respond to stories and eventually, write stories of their own, thereby developing oral comprehension, reading comprehension and verbal communication skills.  Slideshows containing new words pronounced in German with an associated picture are available to students.  We are currently utilizing Edmodo.com to send reminders of Quiz, Test and project due dates as well as to post relevant slide shows.  (short quizzes are administered every 3 days during the first semester)  Students recieve a password and account to access this site at home as a study guide.

Members of the German Class are also eligeable to participate in a Field Study to Germany as opportunities become available.  Students must meet specific criteria, are required to do additional study beyond German class requirements and must attend regular meetings.  German 2 and 3 students will be given top priority.
