Middle El - Mrs. Dunsmore

             On February 13, 2008 We did a volume experiment with Peter using snow and ice.

We started the experiment with Peter showing us the tools we would need to use to cut the hole into the

ice and the tools we would need to remove the blocks from the water.  After this we were allowed to try

some of the tools for ourselves.  We had to remove a block of ice from the pond to specific dimensions.

Then we had to make a block of snow to the same dimensions.

                    

           

 

  

 

 

    We also learned more about ice harvesting by reading the book Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They went through the same process of harvesting ice as we did except they used sawdust to insulate the ice blocks to help make it last late into the summer.
