Thanks for stopping by!
This is my first year teaching at Chatfield and I am excited to have such a great 7th grade classroom. A little information about myself includes a bachelors degree from the University of Michigan-Flint with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Science. Interests include music, snowmobiling, motorcycling, boating and fishing so if you ever want to strike up conversation on any of these topics, I would be pleased. In addition to 7th grade I am teaching an exploration called "Going Global" this quarter. We are preparing to contact students in Sweden, Korea and Brazil to learn about their culture and how it compares/differentiates to the United States. We are also covering the presidential election of 2008 and students are working/mentoring younger grades (K-3). We plan to take a trip to Suncrest to work with the residents there as well.
If you ever need to contact me for any reason concerning your child or the classroom feel free to email: rkurtz@chatfield.spfs.k12.mi.us or call (810) 538-1730.
The first week of school students worked hard on creating a powerpoint presentation regarding the book Wednesday Wars. The goal was to create such a presentation outlining the time period of the event including fashion, important people, inventions/technology, music, war, and food.

Monday, September 22nd we were able to make pizza in the mud oven with Peter! The students worked well together pulling up garlic from the garden, grading cheese, spreading out the dough and assembling the pizza. Then, with the work of some students gathering wood for the fire, we warmed up the mud oven, cooked the delicious pizza and ate it!
