Chatfield School

Welcome to 7th Grade!

Students will be traveling to Meadowbrook Theater on Thursday, December 1st to view the play, A Christmas Carol.  Please view permission slip for more details.

A Christmas Carol Permission Slip

Students have started reading novels in the genre of drama.  They were assigned reading groups and have been doing a great job working together to assign roles for scenes in the plays in their books.

Many exciting events have been happening in 7th grade.  These pictures have been taken during the science intensive study week, which was the week of November 7th through November 11th.  Our 7th graders worked with 3rd graders conducting investigations about water.  We enjoyed a special presentation given by Whispering Pines Animal Kingdom.  They presented different types of exotic animals!

To conclude our mystery novel reading of the Ghost Canoe, we held a potlatch.  Students carved spoons out of cedar.  Students used their spoons to eat a vegetable stew prepared by 7th grade parents.  (A very special thank you to all that donated for our stew and to those that helped prepare our treat!)  Students were also able to sample smoked salmon and salmon spread, which was a traditional fish the Makah Indian tribe would fish for in the book.

Hands on science activities:  Investigation-Does Air Have Mass? and How does heat transfer through different types of materials?

Fall 2011: Canoe Trip

Our canoe trip was a huge success!  We pulled 16 tires from the river!  We also pulled out some other things including a road construction barrel, a crib headboard, a plastic tricycle, and a ton of other garbage! Way to go 7th graders for making such a huge difference in your community!  The tires will be donated to Cass Community Service (http://casscommunity.org/Green_Industries) to create mud mats.  The 7th graders will be visiting Cass Community in October.
