Mrs. Houghtaling has been an educator in Lapeer for 30 years. She received her undergraduate degree in special education and mathematics from Western Michigan University in 1978.  Her masters in special education was received in 1983.  An additional twenty-five credits were added in early childhood studies. She worked in Lapeer Community Schools for 19 years and has been at Chatfield since they opened in 1997.  

 Mrs. Houghtaling is married to Ted.  He works as a driver for United Parcel Service and is in the National Guard.  Her son, Scott, 28, has three children, Dylan, 8, Kielee, 6, and Alex, 3.  Her daughter Kelly, 24, has recently married.
