Classroom Constitutions
T-Rex-A-Tutuion
T-Rex-A-Tution is our classroom constitution. As a class we created a constitution for our classroom that represents behavior we want to see in our classroom (outside his mouth and body) and behavior we do not want to see in our classroom (inside the mouth and stomach). Every student voted and created a part of our constitution and signed the finished document. Today, it hangs in the entry way of our room.

Candyland-a-tution
The behaviors in the green grass are behaviors we would like to see in the classroom and the behaviors outside the fence are behaviors we do not want to see in the classroom.
Conservation District Presentation

Students in the fifth grade receive a presentation put on by the Conservation District three times a year. The topics are soil, groundwater, and trees. Through the series of presentations, students learn ways that they can conserve our natural resources and why conserving them is important. The program ends with each student receiving a White Pine to plant and a fundraiser of selling trees to family and friends.
Christmas Party
Students took part in a Mug/Friendship exchange with Fourth and Third Graders. They were asked to bring a mug and we played giant muscial mugs in the gym. With the new mug they recieved we returned to the fifth grade area and had a hot cocoa party and watched A Christmas Carol.

Author's Chair
After a writing piece is complete, students have the opportunity to share their writing with the class. During Author's chair we sahre, listen, enjoy, and eat.
Human Body Joints Activity
Students were asked to bring in household items to create the three types of joints. They were placed into groups for this fun, interactive, hands-on assignment.

Fifth Graders Team Building Activities
Fifth graders built catapults and marshmallow structures. They had to plan, organize, and work collaboratively to create a successful catapult and free standing marshmallow structure.

Moon Phases
Students are learning about the moon phases and were able to part of a model of the sun, moon, and Earth traveling through the moon phase cycle.

Salsa Economics
Students are learning about the factors of production and various economic terms through a series of lessons and literature. One fun activity that students get to take part in is making salsa using items from the schools garden with Peter.

Three Sisters Soup
Fifth grade students learned about Native American regions and culture. They learned that the South West region relied on the three sisters:beans, squash, and corn. Fifth graders made a three sisters soup for the whole school.

Students were able to spend time learning about the different Native American Regions through fire building, food, and building of houses.

Fifth Grade Edible Solar System

Fifth Graders learn about the planets in our Solar System. They made an edible model in small groups. Each group was given various fruit and vegetables and asked to decide what planet each should represent based on size and color. Then, students went outside and based on a scale, walked the distance of each planet from the sun and placed that planet on the sidewalk. Students were able to create and visualize a scaled model of the solar system in relationship to size and distance from the sun. After, the fruits and vegetables were cleaned the students were able to enjoy a tasty, out-of-this-world-treat.
Student's were asked "Why did you choose a particular vegetable/fruit to represent each planet?"
"We choose are solar system by size. The smallest (the blueberries) was Pluto and the largest (the pumpkin) is Jupiter and the others inbetween."
"We designed our solar system by size, shape, and color."
Student Blogs
Students are creating blogs about the planets. They are working in groups of three and are assigned a planet to research and display the data about that planet in a blog. Please follow our blogs and comment on our posts. Please click on the planet to be connected to their blog.
